Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
