Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the team reach places they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to form the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
